Taking Control of Pregnancy Cravings

Every woman experiences food cravings at some point during her pregnancy. Here are a few tips to help take control of these cravings.

Don’t Skip Meals

Skipping meals can cause you to feel hungry at irregular hours, which could lead to unhealthy snacking. Having healthy, nutritious meals on time will help reduce hunger-induced cravings and provide your body the nourishment it needs.

Assess if You are Really Hungry

Before you decide to have a snack, first ask yourself if you are really hungry. It is common to mistake thirst for hunger, so keep yourself well-hydrated through the day. It also helps to keep healthy food like fruits and nuts handy for when you absolutely need to have a snack.

Allow Small Indulgences

Completely restricting yourself from indulging will only worsen the cravings. A good idea is to allow yourself small indulgences; if you’re craving ice cream, have a small scoop and focus on the flavour. This satisfies your cravings without affecting your body too much.

Substitute Junk Food

If you find it difficult to keep your cravings in check, keep a low supply of junk foods in your home. Instead, stock up on healthy foods when you go grocery shopping.

Practising mindfulness while eating can go a long way towards ensuring your health and your little ones too. Here’s to eating healthy and staying happy!
